Adobe Photoshop tutorials are helpful programs that can help you learn both basic and complex photo or image-editing skills. Whether you are working as a graphic artist or are just an amateur Photoshop user, here are some cool effects you can learn through online Photoshop tutorials:

Photoshop effects: Retro comic book effect

If you’re a fan of old comic books known for their “dotted” images and interesting dialogue boxes, you will definitely enjoy coverting your old photos into comic book images. To be able to achieve this look, you would have to duplicate a photo through your Photoshop tool. Once you’ve duplicated the image, apply a halftone pattern. Click on the Filter tab, then choose pixelate. Under the pixelate, look for the halftone option. Set the max radius to 4 and just use the default values for the rest. Click Ok, then click the Layers Palette option, and darken the image by choosing Darken within the blending mode.

Photo shop effects: Converting photos to pencil sketch image

A pencil sketch is a classic artwork that continues to attract the attention of many artists and art lovers. This is why many Photoshop users enjoy coverting images or photos into pencil sketch images. To do this, you just have to open a picture file through Photoshop. Create another copy of the background layer and invert it. You then have to change the image into a greyscale without flattening the image. Click Dodge when setting the layer mode. As the image turns to white, use the Gaussian blur-filter and set the radius between 1.5 and 5.0 pixels. Setting the radius higher than this range can result in an image that looks more like a pastel painting instead of a pencil sketch.

These Photoshop effects may seem daunting to amateur artists but with enough practice and patience, doing these effects becomes easier.

PhotoShop Special Effects: The Smoke Effect

February 11th, 2010
Share this on your facebook page

The smoke effect is one of the most popular effects that you can do with PhotoShop. It only takes a few steps for you
to create a dramatic photo with this special effect.

Starting with a black background

This effect works best with a black background because smoke is most visible against black. Go to the Layer tab and
make a new layer. Select the Polygonal lasso tool, which you can find on the left hand side of your screen. Use this tool
to create an abstract shape on the new layer. Next, use the blur and dodge tools. Set the brush size to 50 and set it to
“highlights.” Apply this tool to the edges and corners of the shape you have created so that your image comes out with
some light and dark areas.

Wave and fade wave options

The wave and fade options are what make the smoky effect in PhotoShop possible. To use these options, first go to
the Filter tab, choose Distort then Wave. Set the Generator to “5,” wavelength minimum of “10” and a maximum of
“20,” amplitude at a minimum of “5” and a maximum of “35.” and scale at “100%.” Next, go to Edit and choose
Fade-Wave to set the opacity to “50%.” Repeat the Distort-Fade process until you get the smoky effect that you were
going for. To make the effect look more realistic, you can go to Distort–resize and change the blending modes a bit.
To add more colors to your effect, make a new layer and use a brush to spread different colors over your image, then
set the blending mode to Overlay for that layer.

Creating a smoky special effect with PhotoShop is possible with just a few simple steps. If you want to know more
about this effect or want to discover more effects, go online for PhotoShop tutorial articles and videos.

Photoshop Special Effects: Making Animated Icons

February 3rd, 2010

Increasing traffic to your website depends on one thing: making its design and content something that people would want to see and come back to. One way to create an interesting website design is to have a bit of animation. Here’s how to do it:

Benefits of using animated icons for your website

The trouble with static images that people often use on their websites and blogs is that they hardly merit attention. Even if they do, holding that attention is too much of a challenge, especially with so many professionally designed and maintained sites on the web. Animation makes for catchier designs, allowing your site to come alive. The best thing about it is that it’s bound to keep your visitors’ attention. It’s also more likely to increase interaction on your site.

How to make animated icons through Photoshop

For beginners, a good trick to start with is using Graphic Interchange Format, the most commonly used format for web graphics. To make animated GIF using Photoshop, you need to build your layer—a file consisting of a series of frames that you want to animate. Activate the animation toolbar on your Photoshop and import your first frame. Disable the visibility on frames that you don’t want displayed at the start of your animation. Upload the frames into the animation bar one at a time, activating the visibility of the frames according to your preference. Once the frames are ready, click on the upper right-hand corner of the animation palette and select “Tween” from the menu. Select your parameters and set the timing for the motion of your frames. You can do this one by one or simultaneously. If you want to set the same duration for all frames, simply hold down the Shift key and highlight the frames, then set the delay (e.g., 1 sec.). Lastly, export your GIF by choosing “Save for Web.”

Sometimes, websites with good content don’t get as much traffic because of a boring design. Using Photoshop, get creative and animate your site to make it more interesting.

Photo shop Tutorial: Retouching Facial Blemishes

In this age of digital image editing, you can go ahead and kiss those embarrassing pictures goodbye. If you want a better complexion in your photos, here are some do-it-yourself tips.

Photoshop as a good photo editing tool

Since its launch in the nineties, Adobe Photoshop has become the image editing standard for graphic artists and home users alike. It allows you to crop images, adjust the color and lighting contrast, cut-and-paste subjects to your preferred backdrop, and even add texture and special effects to give a certain drama to your photos.

How to retouch blemishes through Photo shop

Photoshop has plenty of editing options, but the alternative that works best for facial blemishes is cloning. First, you need to make a back-up copy just in case you make mistakes and need to revert to the original image. On the left side of your monitor, you will see a toolbar. Hover your mouse over the icons until you read “Clone Startup Tool.” Click on the icon. If you want to remove a pimple or a dark spot, press the Alt key and hold it down to select a clear patch of skin that you would need for covering up blemishes. Keeping one hand pressed on the Alt key, point your mouse to the blemish that needs to be covered—and voila! The blemish is removed like magic. To get the most natural—and hence the best—cover, choose the clear patch of skin closest to the blemish, as these spots will have the same skin tone.

Since pictures make memories last a lifetime, better turn them into memories you’d want to keep. You need not be a professional photo lab technician to fix unsightly blemishes—all thanks to Photoshop.

You can use the eye dropper to pick up the color from the iris. Paint over the red part of the eye. You then have to go to Filters>Blur>Gaussian and soften the edges by making it 1 pixel blur. You then have to set the layer mode to Saturation.

Other red eye removal editing techniques

Inexpensive Gift From Photoshop

May 18th, 2007
Share this on your facebook page

Last mother’s day, I’ve been thinking of what gift I would give to my mom. I’m not a mama’s boy if that’s what you think. I just believe that it’s our responsibility to make our parents happy even for a simple reason. So, I decided to give her a framed picture of our Disney Land trip when I was a little boy. Well, the picture really needs renovation. The edges are torn out and the picture itself is a bit unclear. Automatically, I thought of Adobe Photoshop as a solution.
