Customize your Brushes

Photoshop means incomparable flexibility and convenience. It’s here where you can create your own customized brushes that take just a few mouse-clicks to finish. Anyone, even your cute baby sister can create one of her own. This simple tutorial will guide you along the way in creating a custom brush that you can use in Photoshop anytime.

First, you need to create a new layer for the brush to be painted on. Be reminded that you have to keep your work on the new layer. Now, create a shape with any of the brushes that you have. If you’re not the artistic type, it doesn’t matter if you produce a not so artsy-craftsy shape, just deal with it by experimenting. Remember, you’re coming up with a custom brush, so it doesn’t really matter if it looks great or not. When you’re done with designing the brush, you need to select it. Press the Control key while clicking the layer where your brush is located. What you will have is the brush that you have just made. Give the Brush a new name by going to Edit — Define Brush Preset. When you’re done you can select you’re custom brush at the Brush tab at the top left. Customize your brush using the settings available. When you’re finish customizing, save the brush so you can use it in the future.
