Pixelation

The Pixelate filters in Photoshop makes for a good art style. You can create a masterpiece a la Georges-Pierre Seurat, the French painter who founded ‘Neoimpressionism.’ Seurat was also responsible for introducing a painting technique called ‘pointillism’ or divisionism. The brush strokes make use of small dots of pure color juxtaposed together in a canvas to maximize luminosity.

Just like pointillism, pixelation is done by clumping together small dots that have like colors to form a larger unit. The shapes created may be square or circular. It creates an art form when the pixelation is done with precision. Good thing, Photoshop has filters that allow pixelation of images. This technique is best done on simple images and those that have high contrasts.

The filters include Crystallize which produces dots shaped in a polygon. Color Halftone filter simulates a printed magazine or a comic book. The Facet filter creates a resulting image that looks like it’s hand-painted. While the Mosaic filter clumps pixels into large square blocks. Another is pointillism, which is a filter that is quite similar to Mosaic but here it breaks the image into smaller dots. The image’s background color serves as the canvas. The resulting image mimics the artworks created by Suerat. If you have longed to create a masterpiece artwork than this is your chance to do it.
